Purpose and Benefits of SRCC

SRCC certified equipment is required in order to take advantage of tax credit and rebate programs offered by State and Federal Governments.

The Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (SRCC) is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1980 as a means of developing and implementing certification programs and a nationally recognized standard for rating solar energy equipment.

The SRCC currently administers a certification, rating and labeling program for individual solar collectors and also for complete solar water heating and pool heating systems. The products must pass a series of durability and efficiency tests in order to be labeled as being in compliance with the minimum standards for certification and the products must bear those labels which show the performance rating for that product.

SRCC certifications benefit manufacturers, contractors and consumers alike. For manufacturers, a nationally recognized certification program means reciprocity by all states of the certification and a trustworthy means for judging product durability and performance.

Contractors benefit from SRCC certifications in that it provides product credibility and also offers a defense against uncertified competition with false claims.

Consumers benefit from such programs by having a nationally standardized method to independently compare solar equipment and better determine which products to buy.

Currently, the Federal gives a personal tax credit of 30%, up to $2000, of the cost of a solar system. There is no limit on the amount of credit for a commercial installation. Many states also offer additional incentives for utilizing solar products in addition to Federal incentives.

All solar thermal systems must be SRCC certified in order for a person or business to be able to obtain a tax credit.
